DataRevoke Glossary of Terms
Actions
- Display message: A message is displayed to the user.
- Log event: An event is written to the log file and sent to
the DataRevoke Server.
- Shut down: Device is shut down. No data is deleted.
- Persistent shut down: Device is shut down over and over
again. No data is deleted.
- Secure delete files: Data is overwritten from 1 to 8 times,
then the filename is deleted. Each file is handled sequentially, first being
overwritten, then deleted.
- DOD delete files: Data is overwritten and then deleted in
accordance with the DOD 5220.22-M standard of deleting data as specified in the
National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual.
- Overwrite free space: Periodically when the device is idle,
overwrites free space on the hard disk.
- Run script: Runs a Visual Basic script or DOS batch file.
- Lock computer: Locks the device when the device is idle for a
pre-determined period of time.
Activation Code Used to install the DataRevoke Agent
on a client device. Activation Codes are managed in the Application Settings
window.
Activity Log Allows you to see all alerts pertaining
to an individual device.
Alerts Warnings sent to the administrator about
changes in device status or when rules are executed by the client.
Application Settings Controls activation codes,
certificate issuance, connection information, and the encryption blacklist.
Certificate management An integral component of the
DataRevoke service that provides creation, issuance, backup, and restoration of
certificates used by the Microsoft Encrypting File System.
Certificate issuance policy Determines the level of
authentication required when certificates are issued to users.
Check-in Frequency How often the device will check in
with the DataRevoke Server while it is online.
Device Status Status of the client device. Possible
statuses are: Active, Lost, Stolen, Found, Inactive or Uninstalled.
Device Settings Assigned to a group of devices,
Device Settings specify the time intervals for Check-in, Out of Contact, Grace
Period, Warning Message, and Unrecoverable.
Effective Dates Allows you to set a start and end
date and time for a rule. Leaving the fields blank equals start now and never
end.
Encryption Files are automatically encrypted with
Microsoft EFS. Decryption requires a file encryption key stored on the hard
disk, combined with a successful login to the computer.
Encryption Blacklist Used to prevent a pre-configured
set of directories managed by the operating system from being encrypted.
Encryption Policies Specifies the location(s) of
files to be encrypted on the device.
Events Activities that are monitored by the
DataRevoke service. Possible events are: Consecutive failed logons, and
Check-in.
Grace Period The amount of cumulative uptime after
the Out of Contact Period has expired before actions are triggered on the
client system. Uptime is based on the number of minutes the device is switched
on.
Group A group of devices. Groups make it easier to
administer large numbers of devices.
Out of Contact Period The amount of linear time a
device is allowed to be offline (not checking in with the DataRevoke
Server).
Rule Definition Allows you to define the events, actions,
thresholds and location of files for each rule.
Rules Status Shows the status of each individual rule
assigned to a device.
Threshold The number of times an event is allowed to
happen before a action is triggered. Range is 3 15.
Warning Message Optional message that warns you that
the grace period has started.
